Becca Goes Back to Back at Bartlett

Bartlett triathlon represented Becca’s one year anniversary in this sport.  Her progress in this sport has been remarkable.

Started from the bottom…

And now she’s here.

Boston Marathon training has been tough and trying to maintain bike and swim fitness has been a challenge.  Becca used Bartlett race week as a period to recover a bit from her most recent (and quite massive) run training block.  Being Easter Sunday, we knew the turnout for this race wasn’t going to be great.

I kept reminding her that even though she may not have competition, she needed to race the clock and try to improve on last year’s time.  Moreover, she has been working her a$$ off in the water.  Being a brand new swimmer as of 2017, swimming has been her biggest challenge.  In smaller, less competitive races she was able to ride/run down her competition, but she was unable to do this in a few of her bigger races last year.  She has been taking swimming lessons and spending a lot of time in the pool.

Bartlett is deemed as Arizona’s toughest Olympic race with over 2,000 feet of elevation gain over the 40k bike and nearly 1,000 feet of climbing on the run.  Becca took over 15″ per 100/yd off her pace last year, had fewer to chase on the bike, and took the lead early on in the run.  She won by over 5′ and cruised in for the win – back to back Bartlett victories.  She beat her time from her 1st Bartlett race by 27 minutes.

The future is very bright for this young padawan!

Boston in 2 weeks.
